Welcome bonus: the biggest offer, the longest small print
The welcome bonus is usually the largest promotion an operator runs — and the one with the longest list of conditions. The common shape is extra funds on the first deposit, sometimes with free spins attached. This page reads such offers from the mechanics side. Not the headline figure, which the operator sets and changes, but what you would actually have to do to turn bonus funds into a withdrawable balance.
How first-deposit bonuses are calculated
A deposit bonus is typically a percentage of the deposit up to a ceiling. The more important detail is the base for wagering. Some promotions apply the multiple to the bonus alone, others to bonus plus deposit. Hypothetically: deposit 100 units, receive 100 units, requirement 30 times. On the bonus alone, you must stake 3,000 units; on bonus plus deposit, 6,000. One clause in the terms doubles the work.
Your money first, or the bonus first?
The terms also set the order in which balances are used. In some promotions bets draw on your deposit first; if you win big before touching the bonus, you can sometimes keep those winnings by cancelling the bonus. In others, the two balances merge and everything is locked by wagering from the first spin. This rule decides how freely you can walk away mid-way.
Choosing games to clear wagering
Games that count in full are usually slots. Among slots, the installed RTP version and volatility decide how fast the balance erodes while wagering runs. High-volatility titles can drain the balance before the requirement is met; gentler ones buy more time without guaranteeing anything. Open the info panel and try the demo first — the game guides show what to look for. And check the excluded-games list.
Clauses people miss
- Maximum bet while the bonus is active — one oversized spin can void it.
- Expiry — wagering must be completed within a set period.
- Win cap on bonus funds — winnings above it are removed.
- Payment method exclusions — some methods do not qualify; check the cashier.
- One bonus per person or device — duplicate accounts are a serious breach.
When to decline the welcome bonus
If you only want to try a few games at small stakes, want to withdraw whenever you like, or prefer table games, declining often makes more sense. A bonus should never be the reason to make a bigger first deposit. Set a deposit limit in the account first and decide about the bonus afterwards. The full checklist is on the bonus terms page and the maths on the wagering page.
